Diffeomorphic mapping is a broad term that actually refers to a number of different algorithms, processes, and methods. It is attached to many operations and has many applications for analysis and visualization. Diffeomorphic mapping can be used to relate various sources of information which are indexed as a function of spatial position as the key index variable. Diffeomorphisms are by their Latin root structure preserving transformations, which are in turn differentiable and therefore smooth, allowing for the calculation of metric based quantities such as arc length and surface areas. Spatial location and extents in human anatomical coordinate systems can be recorded via a variety of Medical imaging modalities, generally termed multi-modal medical imagery, providing either scalar and or vector quantities at each spatial location.\r\n\r\n\r\n<span style=\"color:grey; opacity: 0.6\">( Image credit: [Quicksilver](https://arxiv.org/pdf/1703.10908.pdf) )</span>","description_from":"task","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","rank":"the archive's row order at snapshot; not re-ranked","rows_end_at":"2025-07-28","rows_withheld_as_spam":0,"metric_values":"the archive's strings, untouched"},"metrics":["Dice","RMSE","Hausdorff Distance (mm)","Grad Det-Jac"],"metric_direction":{"note":"inferred from the metric name only (the archive records no direction); null = not inferred, chart draws points only","by_metric":{"Dice":"higher","RMSE":"lower","Hausdorff Distance (mm)":"lower","Grad Det-Jac":null}},"counts":{"rows":3,"rows_with_code":2,"rows_with_paper_page":3,"rows_dated":3,"rows_using_additional_data":3},"rows":[{"rank_in_archive_order":1,"model":"cVAE Diffeomorphic (S3)","metrics":{"Dice":"0.812","Grad Det-Jac":"1.4","Hausdorff Distance (mm)":"7.3","RMSE":"0.30"},"uses_additional_data":true,"paper_date":"2018-12-18","paper":"/paper/learning-a-probabilistic-model-for","paper_url":"http://arxiv.org/abs/1812.07460v2","paper_title":"Learning a Probabilistic Model for Diffeomorphic Registration","code":null,"n_code_links":0,"syntology":null},{"rank_in_archive_order":2,"model":"SyN","metrics":{"Dice":"0.801","Grad Det-Jac":"3.4","Hausdorff Distance (mm)":"8.1","RMSE":"0.32"},"uses_additional_data":true,"paper_date":"2008-02-01","paper":"/paper/symmetric-diffeomorphic-image-registration","paper_url":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17659998","paper_title":"Symmetric diffeomorphic image registration with cross-correlation: evaluating automated labeling of elderly and neurodegenerative brain","code":"https://github.com/ANTsX/ANTs","n_code_links":1,"syntology":null},{"rank_in_archive_order":3,"model":"VoxelMorph","metrics":{"Grad Det-Jac":"9.2"},"uses_additional_data":true,"paper_date":"2018-09-14","paper":"/paper/voxelmorph-a-learning-framework-for","paper_url":"https://arxiv.org/abs/1809.05231v3","paper_title":"VoxelMorph: A Learning Framework for Deformable Medical Image Registration","code":"https://github.com/voxelmorph/voxelmorph","n_code_links":9,"syntology":null}],"since_archive":{"claim":"Results that newer papers report for their own method, placed here by Syntology.
