For instance, a car driving by on the street is regarded as a normal event, but if the car enters a pedestrian area, this is regarded as an abnormal event. A person running on a sports court (normal event) versus running outside from a bank (abnormal event) is another example. Although what is considered abnormal depends on the context, we can generally agree that abnormal events should be unexpected events that occur less often than familiar (normal) events\r\n\r\n\r\n<span class=\"description-source\">Source: [Unmasking the abnormal events in video ](https://arxiv.org/abs/1705.08182)</span>\r\n\r\nImage: [Ravanbakhsh et al](https://arxiv.org/pdf/1708.09644v1.pdf)","description_from":"task","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","rank":"the archive's row order at snapshot; not re-ranked","rows_end_at":"2025-07-28","rows_withheld_as_spam":0,"metric_values":"the archive's strings, untouched"},"metrics":["AUC","Decidability","EER"],"metric_direction":{"note":"inferred from the metric name only (the archive records no direction); null = not inferred, chart draws points only","by_metric":{"AUC":"higher","Decidability":null,"EER":null}},"counts":{"rows":6,"rows_with_code":5,"rows_with_paper_page":6,"rows_dated":6,"rows_using_additional_data":0},"rows":[{"rank_in_archive_order":1,"model":"GMM","metrics":{"AUC":"0.906","Decidability":"1.386","EER":"0.160"},"uses_additional_data":false,"paper_date":"2020-07-23","paper":"/paper/weakly-and-partially-supervised-learning","paper_url":"https://www.researchgate.net/publication/350580836_Weakly_and_Partially_Supervised_Learning_Frameworks_for_Anomaly_Detection","paper_title":"Weakly and Partially Supervised Learning Frameworks for Anomaly Detection","code":"https://github.com/DegardinBruno/human_self_learning_anomaly","n_code_links":1,"syntology":null},{"rank_in_archive_order":2,"model":"Sultani et al.","metrics":{"AUC":"0.892","Decidability":"0.804","EER":"0.186"},"uses_additional_data":false,"paper_date":"2018-01-12","paper":"/paper/real-world-anomaly-detection-in-surveillance","paper_url":"http://arxiv.org/abs/1801.04264v3","paper_title":"Real-world Anomaly Detection in Surveillance Videos","code":"https://github.com/WaqasSultani/AnomalyDetectionCVPR2018","n_code_links":9,"syntology":{"n_ran":4,"n_unverified":2,"n_samples":6,"n_pointer_only_licence":4}},{"rank_in_archive_order":3,"model":"s2-VAE","metrics":{"AUC":"0.610","Decidability":"0.323","EER":"0.427"},"uses_additional_data":false,"paper_date":"2018-10-29","paper":"/paper/generative-neural-networks-for-anomaly","paper_url":"https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/document/8513816","paper_title":"Generative Neural Networks for Anomaly Detection in Crowded Scenes","code":"https://github.com/tianwangbuaa/VAE-for-abnormal-event-detection","n_code_links":1,"syntology":null},{"rank_in_archive_order":4,"model":"LSTM-VAE","metrics":{"AUC":"0.541","Decidability":"0.059","EER":"0.480"},"uses_additional_data":false,"paper_date":"2017-01-06","paper":"/paper/abnormal-event-detection-in-videos-using","paper_url":"http://arxiv.org/abs/1701.01546v1","paper_title":"Abnormal Event Detection in Videos using Spatiotemporal Autoencoder","code":"https://github.com/ShrishtiHore/Anomaly-Detection-in-CCTV-Surveillance-Videos","n_code_links":5,"syntology":{"n_ran":2,"n_unverified":1,"n_samples":3,"n_pointer_only_licence":3}},{"rank_in_archive_order":5,"model":"Adversarial Generator","metrics":{"AUC":"0.533","Decidability":"0.147","EER":"0.484"},"uses_additional_data":false,"paper_date":"2017-08-31","paper":"/paper/abnormal-event-detection-in-videos-using-1","paper_url":"http://arxiv.org/abs/1708.09644v1","paper_title":"Abnormal Event Detection in Videos using Generative Adversarial Nets","code":null,"n_code_links":0,"syntology":null},{"rank_in_archive_order":6,"model":"Hasan et al.","metrics":{"AUC":"0.528","Decidability":"0.194","EER":"0.466"},"uses_additional_data":false,"paper_date":"2016-04-15","paper":"/paper/learning-temporal-regularity-in-video","paper_url":"http://arxiv.org/abs/1604.04574v1","paper_title":"Learning Temporal Regularity in Video Sequences","code":"https://github.com/tnybny/Frame-level-anomalies-in-videos","n_code_links":2,"syntology":null}],"since_archive":{"claim":"Results that newer papers report for their own method, placed here by Syntology.
