FMOs may,\nand typically do, rotate with high angular speed. FMOs are very common in\nsports videos, but are not rare elsewhere. In a single frame, such objects are\noften barely visible and appear as semi-transparent streaks.\n  A method for the detection and tracking of FMOs is proposed. The method\nconsists of three distinct algorithms, which form an efficient localization\npipeline that operates successfully in a broad range of conditions. We show\nthat it is possible to recover the appearance of the object and its axis of\nrotation, despite its blurred appearance. The proposed method is evaluated on a\nnew annotated dataset. The results show that existing trackers are inadequate\nfor the problem of FMO localization and a new approach is required. Two\napplications of localization, temporal super-resolution and highlighting, are\npresented.","url_abs":"http://arxiv.org/abs/1611.07889v1","url_pdf":"http://arxiv.org/pdf/1611.07889v1.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"abstracts"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"the-world-of-fast-moving-objects","repo_url":"https://github.com/rozumden/fmo-cpp-demo","is_official":1,"mentioned_in_paper":0,"mentioned_in_github":0,"framework":"none","reach":{"status":"ok","spdx":"MIT"}},{"paper_slug":"the-world-of-fast-moving-objects","repo_url":"https://github.com/rozumden/tbd","is_official":0,"mentioned_in_paper":0,"mentioned_in_github":1,"framework":"pytorch","reach":{"status":"ok"}},{"paper_slug":"the-world-of-fast-moving-objects","repo_url":"https://github.com/rozumden/tbd3d","is_official":0,"mentioned_in_paper":0,"mentioned_in_github":1,"framework":"none","reach":{"status":"ok"}}],"tasks":[{"task_slug":"object","task_name":"Object"},{"task_slug":"super-resolution","task_name":"Super-Resolution"}],"methods":[],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[],"syntology":{"atlas_url":"https://app.syntology.ai/?focus=1611.07889","mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
