The proposed model uses near infrared combined with RGB spectral imagery to increase the accuracy of surface water recognition. In addition, since surface water only accounts for a small percentage of the remote sensing dataset, thus creating an imbalance problem, a proposed loss function is introduced to combine region-based and distribution-based loss. This article introduces an adaptive factor that automatically adjusts the weighting between distribution- and region-based loss functions. The proposed adaptive factor is determined based on the loss value of the previous training step. The mean intersection over union of surface water between predicted and ground truth regions is recorded as 0.80.","url_abs":"https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/10298631","url_pdf":"https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/10298631","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"abstracts"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"swrnet-a-deep-learning-approach-for-small","repo_url":"https://github.com/trongan93/swrnet","is_official":1,"mentioned_in_paper":0,"mentioned_in_github":0,"framework":"pytorch","reach":null}],"tasks":[{"task_slug":"2d-semantic-segmentation","task_name":"2D Semantic Segmentation"}],"methods":[{"method_slug":"swrnet","method_name":"SWRNet"}],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[{"slug":"swrnet","name":"SWRNet","full_name":"A Deep Learning Approach for Small Surface Water Area Recognition Onboard Satellite"}],"results":[{"leaderboard":"/sota/2d-semantic-segmentation-on-worldfloods","task":"2D Semantic Segmentation","dataset":"WorldFloods","model":"SWRNet","rank_in_archive_order":1,"of":1,"metrics":{"Category mIoU":"0.789","GMac":"10.69","MParams":"1.95"},"uses_additional_data":false}],"syntology":{"atlas_url":null,"mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
