When dealing with single images, this becomes an ill-posed problem due to the lack of depth information. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end learning based approach which uses a modified conditional Generative Adversarial Network to directly remove haze from an image. We employ the usage of the Tiramisu model in place of the classic U-Net model as the generator owing to its higher parameter efficiency and performance. Moreover, a patch based discriminator was used to reduce artefacts in the output. To further improve the perceptual quality of the output, a hybrid weighted loss function was designed and used to train the model. Experiments on synthetic and real world hazy images demonstrates that our model performs competitively with the state of the art methods.","url_abs":"https://arxiv.org/abs/1810.09479v2","url_pdf":"https://arxiv.org/pdf/1810.09479v2.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"abstracts"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"single-image-haze-removal-using-a-generative","repo_url":"https://github.com/asraman9792/Image-Dehazing-GANS","is_official":0,"mentioned_in_paper":0,"mentioned_in_github":1,"framework":"tf","reach":{"status":"ok"}},{"paper_slug":"single-image-haze-removal-using-a-generative","repo_url":"https://github.com/thatbrguy/Dehaze-GAN","is_official":0,"mentioned_in_paper":0,"mentioned_in_github":1,"framework":"tf","reach":{"status":"ok","spdx":"MIT"}}],"tasks":[{"task_slug":null,"task_name":"Generative Adversarial Network"},{"task_slug":"image-dehazing","task_name":"Image Dehazing"},{"task_slug":"single-image-haze-removal","task_name":"Single Image Haze Removal"}],"methods":[{"method_slug":"concatenated-skip-connection","method_name":"Concatenated Skip Connection"},{"method_slug":"convolution","method_name":"Convolution"},{"method_slug":"max-pooling","method_name":"Max Pooling"},{"method_slug":"relu","method_name":"ReLU"},{"method_slug":"u-net","method_name":"U-Net"}],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[],"syntology":{"atlas_url":null,"mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
