FIQA algorithms should be robust and insensitive to demographic factors. The eye sclera has a consistent whitish color in all humans regardless of their age, ethnicity and skin-tone. This work proposes a robust sclera segmentation method that is suitable for face images in the enrolment and the border control face recognition scenarios. It shows how the statistical analysis of the sclera pixels produces features that are invariant to skin-tone, age and ethnicity and thus can be incorporated into FIQA algorithms to make them agnostic to demographic factors.","url_abs":"https://arxiv.org/abs/2312.15102v1","url_pdf":"https://arxiv.org/pdf/2312.15102v1.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"abstracts"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"robust-sclera-segmentation-for-skin-tone","repo_url":"https://github.com/wkabbani/sclera-segmentation","is_official":1,"mentioned_in_paper":1,"mentioned_in_github":1,"framework":"none","reach":null}],"tasks":[{"task_slug":"face-image-quality","task_name":"Face Image Quality"},{"task_slug":"face-image-quality-assessment","task_name":"Face Image Quality Assessment"},{"task_slug":"face-recognition","task_name":"Face Recognition"},{"task_slug":"image-quality-assessment","task_name":"Image Quality Assessment"}],"methods":[],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[],"syntology":{"atlas_url":null,"mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
