This study also provided a systematic and pragmatic methodology for choosing the most suitable model for a desired application in agricultural sciences. In terms of accuracy, YOLOv4-CSP was observed as the optimal model, with an AP@0.50 of 98%. In terms of speed and computational cost, YOLOv4-tiny was found to be the ideal model, with a speed of more than 50 FPS and FLOPS of 6.8–14.5. If considering the balance in terms of accuracy, speed and computational cost, YOLOv4 was found to be most suitable and had the highest accuracy metrics while satisfying a real time speed of greater than or equal to 24 FPS. Between the two methods of counting with Deep SORT, the unique ID method was found to be more reliable, with an F1count of 87.85%. This was because YOLOv4 had a very low false negative in detecting pear fruits. The ROI line is more reliable because of its more restrictive nature, but due to flickering in detection it was not able to count some pears despite their being detected.","url_abs":"https://www.mdpi.com/1188352","url_pdf":"https://www.mdpi.com/1424-8220/21/14/4803/pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"abstracts"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"real-time-pear-fruit-detection-and-counting","repo_url":"https://github.com/AlexeyAB/darknet","is_official":0,"mentioned_in_paper":1,"mentioned_in_github":0,"framework":"tf","reach":{"status":"ok","spdx":"NOASSERTION"}},{"paper_slug":"real-time-pear-fruit-detection-and-counting","repo_url":"https://github.com/2023-MindSpore-1/ms-code-210/tree/main/cspdarknet53","is_official":0,"mentioned_in_paper":0,"mentioned_in_github":0,"framework":"mindspore","reach":null},{"paper_slug":"real-time-pear-fruit-detection-and-counting","repo_url":"https://github.com/molimat/YOLOv4-Counter-in-TF","is_official":0,"mentioned_in_paper":0,"mentioned_in_github":0,"framework":"tf","reach":null}],"tasks":[{"task_slug":"multi-object-tracking","task_name":"Multi-Object Tracking"},{"task_slug":"multiple-object-tracking","task_name":"Multiple Object Tracking"},{"task_slug":"object-counting","task_name":"Object Counting"},{"task_slug":"object-detection","task_name":"Object Detection"},{"task_slug":"object-tracking","task_name":"Object Tracking"},{"task_slug":"object-detection-1","task_name":"object-detection"}],"methods":[{"method_slug":"1x1-convolution","method_name":"1x1 Convolution"},{"method_slug":"average-pooling","method_name":"Average Pooling"},{"method_slug":"batch-normalization","method_name":"Batch Normalization"},{"method_slug":"bottom-up-path-augmentation","method_name":"Bottom-up Path Augmentation"},{"method_slug":"cspdarknet53","method_name":"CSPDarknet53"},{"method_slug":"convolution","method_name":"Convolution"},{"method_slug":"cosine-annealing","method_name":"Cosine Annealing"},{"method_slug":"cutmix","method_name":"CutMix"},{"method_slug":"dropblock","method_name":"DropBlock"},{"method_slug":"fpn","method_name":"FPN"},{"method_slug":"global-average-pooling","method_name":"Global Average Pooling"},{"method_slug":"grid-sensitive","method_name":"Grid Sensitive"},{"method_slug":"label-smoothing","method_name":"Label Smoothing"},{"method_slug":"logistic-regression","method_name":"Logistic Regression"},{"method_slug":"max-pooling","method_name":"Max Pooling"},{"method_slug":"pafpn","method_name":"PAFPN"},{"method_slug":"relu","method_name":"ReLU"},{"method_slug":"residual-connection","method_name":"Residual Connection"},{"method_slug":"sigmoid-activation","method_name":"Sigmoid Activation"},{"method_slug":"softmax","method_name":"Softmax"},{"method_slug":"spatial-pyramid-pooling","method_name":"Spatial Pyramid Pooling"},{"method_slug":"tanh-activation","method_name":"Tanh Activation"},{"method_slug":"yolov3","method_name":"YOLOv3"},{"method_slug":"yolov4","method_name":"YOLOv4"},{"method_slug":"k-means-clustering","method_name":"k-Means Clustering"}],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[],"syntology":{"syntology_url":null,"atlas_url":null,"mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
