To fully characterize an unknown entangled state of $n$ qubits, one requires an exponential number of measurements in $n$, which is experimentally unfeasible even for modest system sizes. By leveraging (i) that single-qubit measurements can be made in parallel, and (ii) the theory of perfect hash families, we show that all $k$-qubit reduced density matrices of an $n$ qubit state can be determined with at most $e^{\\mathcal{O}(k)} \\log^2(n)$ rounds of parallel measurements. We provide concrete measurement protocols which realize this bound. As an example, we argue that with current experiments, the entanglement between every pair of qubits in a system of 1000 qubits could be measured and completely characterized in a few days. This corresponds to completely characterizing entanglement of nearly half a million pairs of qubits.","url_abs":"https://arxiv.org/abs/1908.02754v2","url_pdf":"https://arxiv.org/pdf/1908.02754v2.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"links_only","authors_date_abstract":"arXiv metadata, CC0 1.0 (https://info.arxiv.org/help/license), from the Kaggle arXiv metadata snapshot of 2026-09-12"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"quantum-overlapping-tomography","repo_url":"https://github.com/fbm2718/QREM","is_official":0,"mentioned_in_paper":0,"mentioned_in_github":1,"framework":"none","reach":{"status":"ok","spdx":"Apache-2.0"}},{"paper_slug":"quantum-overlapping-tomography","repo_url":"https://github.com/tehruhn/quantum-overlapping-tomo","is_official":0,"mentioned_in_paper":0,"mentioned_in_github":1,"framework":"none","reach":null}],"tasks":[],"methods":[],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[],"syntology":{"atlas_url":null,"mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
