Our problem formulation is based on dual quaternions, enabling two different online capable solving approaches. We provide a certifiable globally optimal and a fast local approach along with a method to verify the globality of the local approach. Additionally, means for integrating previous knowledge, for example, a common ground plane for planar sensor motion, are described. Our algorithms are evaluated on simulated data and on a publicly available dataset containing RGB-D camera images. Further, our online calibration approach is tested on the KITTI odometry dataset, which provides data of a lidar and two stereo camera systems mounted on a vehicle. Our evaluation confirms the short run time, state-of-the-art accuracy, as well as online capability of our approach while retaining the global optimality of the solution at any time.","url_abs":"https://arxiv.org/abs/2101.11440v1","url_pdf":"https://arxiv.org/pdf/2101.11440v1.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"links_only","authors_date_abstract":"arXiv metadata, CC0 1.0 (https://info.arxiv.org/help/license), from the Kaggle arXiv metadata snapshot of 2026-09-12"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"online-extrinsic-calibration-based-on-per","repo_url":"https://github.com/uulm-mrm/excalibur","is_official":1,"mentioned_in_paper":0,"mentioned_in_github":1,"framework":"none","reach":null}],"tasks":[],"methods":[],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[],"syntology":{"atlas_url":null,"mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
