Recent work suggests that the power of these massive models is captured by the representations they learn. Therefore, we seek a model that can relate between different existing representations and propose to solve this task with a conditionally invertible network. This network demonstrates its capability by (i) providing generic transfer between diverse domains, (ii) enabling controlled content synthesis by allowing modification in other domains, and (iii) facilitating diagnosis of existing representations by translating them into interpretable domains such as images. Our domain transfer network can translate between fixed representations without having to learn or finetune them. This allows users to utilize various existing domain-specific expert models from the literature that had been trained with extensive computational resources. Experiments on diverse conditional image synthesis tasks, competitive image modification results and experiments on image-to-image and text-to-image generation demonstrate the generic applicability of our approach. For example, we translate between BERT and BigGAN, state-of-the-art text and image models to provide text-to-image generation, which neither of both experts can perform on their own.","url_abs":"https://arxiv.org/abs/2005.13580v2","url_pdf":"https://arxiv.org/pdf/2005.13580v2.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"abstracts"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"network-fusion-for-content-creation-with","repo_url":"https://github.com/CompVis/net2net","is_official":1,"mentioned_in_paper":1,"mentioned_in_github":1,"framework":"pytorch","reach":{"status":"unanswered"}}],"tasks":[{"task_slug":"image-generation","task_name":"Image Generation"},{"task_slug":"image-to-image-translation","task_name":"Image-to-Image Translation"},{"task_slug":"text-to-image-generation-1","task_name":"Text to Image Generation"},{"task_slug":"text-to-image-generation","task_name":"Text-to-Image Generation"},{"task_slug":"translation","task_name":"Translation"}],"methods":[{"method_slug":"1x1-convolution","method_name":"1x1 Convolution"},{"method_slug":"adam","method_name":"Adam"},{"method_slug":"attention","method_name":"Attention"},{"method_slug":"attention-dropout","method_name":"Attention Dropout"},{"method_slug":"bert","method_name":"BERT"},{"method_slug":"batch-normalization","method_name":"Batch Normalization"},{"method_slug":"biggan","method_name":"BigGAN"},{"method_slug":"conditional-batch-normalization","method_name":"Conditional Batch Normalization"},{"method_slug":"convolution","method_name":"Convolution"},{"method_slug":"dense-connections","method_name":"Dense Connections"},{"method_slug":"dropout","method_name":"Dropout"},{"method_slug":"early-stopping","method_name":"Early Stopping"},{"method_slug":"feedforward-network","method_name":"Feedforward Network"},{"method_slug":"gan-hinge-loss","method_name":"GAN Hinge Loss"},{"method_slug":"layer-normalization","method_name":"Layer Normalization"},{"method_slug":"linear-layer","method_name":"Linear Layer"},{"method_slug":"linear-warmup-with-linear-decay","method_name":"Linear Warmup With Linear Decay"},{"method_slug":"multi-head-attention","method_name":"Multi-Head Attention"},{"method_slug":"non-local-block","method_name":"Non-Local Block"},{"method_slug":"non-local-operation","method_name":"Non-Local Operation"},{"method_slug":"off-diagonal-orthogonal-regularization","method_name":"Off-Diagonal Orthogonal Regularization"},{"method_slug":"projection-discriminator","method_name":"Projection Discriminator"},{"method_slug":"relu","method_name":"ReLU"},{"method_slug":"residual-block","method_name":"Residual Block"},{"method_slug":"residual-connection","method_name":"Residual Connection"},{"method_slug":"sagan","method_name":"SAGAN"},{"method_slug":"softmax","method_name":"Softmax"},{"method_slug":"spectral-normalization","method_name":"Spectral Normalization"},{"method_slug":"ttur","method_name":"TTUR"},{"method_slug":"truncation-trick","method_name":"Truncation Trick"},{"method_slug":"weight-decay","method_name":"Weight Decay"},{"method_slug":"wordpiece","method_name":"WordPiece"}],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[],"syntology":{"syntology_url":"https://syntology.ai/paper/2005.13580","atlas_url":"https://app.syntology.ai/?focus=2005.13580","mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
