We propose a needs-driven multi-robot cooperation mechanism represented through a Behavior Tree structure and evaluate the system's performance in terms of the group utility and energy cost to achieve the rescue mission in a limited time. From the theoretical analysis, we prove that the needs-driven cooperation in a heterogeneous robot system enables higher group utility than a homogeneous robot system. We also perform simulation experiments to verify the proposed needs-driven collaboration and show that the heterogeneous multi-robot cooperation can achieve better performance and increase system robustness by reducing uncertainty in task execution. Finally, we discuss the application to human-robot teaming.","url_abs":"http://arxiv.org/abs/2009.00288v2","url_pdf":"http://arxiv.org/pdf/2009.00288v2.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"links_only","authors_date_abstract":"arXiv metadata, CC0 1.0 (https://info.arxiv.org/help/license), from the Kaggle arXiv metadata snapshot of 2026-09-12"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"needs-driven-heterogeneous-multi-robot","repo_url":"https://github.com/RickYang2016/SSRR_2020","is_official":1,"mentioned_in_paper":0,"mentioned_in_github":0,"framework":"none","reach":null}],"tasks":[],"methods":[],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[],"syntology":{"atlas_url":null,"mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
