The traditional LCS definition is a special case of our problem, where $k = 1$. We provide an algorithm, solving the general case in $O(n^2)$ time, where $n$ is the length of the input strings, equaling the time required for the special case of $k=1$. The space requirement of the algorithm is $O(kn)$. %, however, in order to enable %backtracking of the solution, $O(n^2)$ space is needed. We also define a complementary $EDk$ distance measure and show that $EDk(A,B)$ can be computed in $O(nm)$ time and $O(km)$ space, where $m$, $n$ are the lengths of the input sequences $A$ and $B$ respectively.","url_abs":"https://arxiv.org/abs/1402.2097v1","url_pdf":"https://arxiv.org/pdf/1402.2097v1.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"links_only","authors_date_abstract":"arXiv metadata, CC0 1.0 (https://info.arxiv.org/help/license), from the Kaggle arXiv metadata snapshot of 2026-09-12"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"longest-common-subsequence-in-k-length","repo_url":"https://github.com/fpavetic/lcskpp","is_official":0,"mentioned_in_paper":0,"mentioned_in_github":1,"framework":"none","reach":null}],"tasks":[],"methods":[],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[],"syntology":{"atlas_url":null,"mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
