We show that, despite the Newtonian behavior of these methods, they almost always escape strict saddle points. We also evidence the role played by the hyper-parameters of these methods in their qualitative behavior near critical points. The theoretical results are supported by numerical illustrations.","url_abs":"https://arxiv.org/abs/2111.04596v2","url_pdf":"https://arxiv.org/pdf/2111.04596v2.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"abstracts"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"inertial-newton-algorithms-avoiding-strict","repo_url":"https://github.com/camcastera/innaavoidssaddles","is_official":1,"mentioned_in_paper":1,"mentioned_in_github":1,"framework":"none","reach":null}],"tasks":[],"methods":[],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[],"syntology":{"atlas_url":null,"mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
