Until now these problems were mainly tackled at the classifier level. We propose to use sound separation as a pre-processing for sound event detection. In this paper we start from a sound separation model trained on the Free Universal Sound Separation dataset and the DCASE 2020 task 4 sound event detection baseline. We explore different methods to combine separated sound sources and the original mixture within the sound event detection. Furthermore, we investigate the impact of adapting the sound separation model to the sound event detection data on both the sound separation and the sound event detection.","url_abs":"https://arxiv.org/abs/2007.03932v1","url_pdf":"https://arxiv.org/pdf/2007.03932v1.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"links_only","authors_date_abstract":"arXiv metadata, CC0 1.0 (https://info.arxiv.org/help/license), from the Kaggle arXiv metadata snapshot of 2026-09-12"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"improving-sound-event-detection-in-domestic-1","repo_url":"https://github.com/turpaultn/dcase20_task4","is_official":1,"mentioned_in_paper":1,"mentioned_in_github":0,"framework":"tf","reach":null}],"tasks":[],"methods":[],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[{"leaderboard":"/sota/sound-event-detection-on-desed","task":"Sound Event Detection","dataset":"DESED","model":"SED-SSep baseline dcase task 4 2020 v2","rank_in_archive_order":7,"of":13,"metrics":{"event-based F1 score":"40.7"},"uses_additional_data":false}],"syntology":{"syntology_url":null,"atlas_url":null,"mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
