We show a number of results. Firstly, we characterize foldable polyiamonds containing a hole of positive area, namely each but one polyiamond is foldable. Secondly, we show that a convex polyiamond folds into the octahedron if and only if it contains one of five polyiamonds. We thirdly present a sharp size bound: While there exist unfoldable polyiamonds of size 14, every polyiamond of size at least 15 folds into the octahedron. This clearly implies that one can test in polynomial time whether a given polyiamond folds into the octahedron. Lastly, we show that for any assignment of positive integers to the faces, there exist a polyiamond that folds into the octahedron such that the number of triangles covering a face is equal to the assigned number.","url_abs":"https://arxiv.org/abs/2207.13989v1","url_pdf":"https://arxiv.org/pdf/2207.13989v1.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"links_only","authors_date_abstract":"arXiv metadata, CC0 1.0 (https://info.arxiv.org/help/license), from the Kaggle arXiv metadata snapshot of 2026-09-12"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"folding-polyiamonds-into-octahedra","repo_url":"https://github.com/dasnessie/folding-polyiamonds","is_official":1,"mentioned_in_paper":1,"mentioned_in_github":0,"framework":"none","reach":null}],"tasks":[],"methods":[],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[],"syntology":{"syntology_url":null,"atlas_url":null,"mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
