While deep learning has proven successful in conventional computer vision applications using regular perspective images, its potential in fish-eye camera contexts remains largely unexplored due to limited datasets for fully supervised learning. Semi-supervised learning comes as a potential solution to manage this challenge. In this study, we explore and benchmark two popular semi-supervised methods from the perspective image domain for fish-eye image segmentation. We further introduce FishSegSSL, a novel fish-eye image segmentation framework featuring three semi-supervised components: pseudo-label filtering, dynamic confidence thresholding, and robust strong augmentation. Evaluation on the WoodScape dataset, collected from vehicle-mounted fish-eye cameras, demonstrates that our proposed method enhances the model’s performance by up to 10.49% over fully supervised methods using the same amount of labeled data. Our method also improves the existing image segmentation methods by 2.34%. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work on semi-supervised semantic segmentation on fish-eye images. Additionally, we conduct a comprehensive ablation study and sensitivity analysis to showcase the efficacy of each proposed method in this research.","url_abs":"https://www.mdpi.com/2313-433X/10/3/71","url_pdf":"https://www.mdpi.com/2313-433X/10/3/71/pdf?version=1710749956","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"abstracts"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"fishsegssl-a-semi-supervised-semantic","repo_url":"https://github.com/snehaputul/FishSegSSL","is_official":0,"mentioned_in_paper":1,"mentioned_in_github":0,"framework":"pytorch","reach":null}],"tasks":[{"task_slug":"autonomous-driving","task_name":"Autonomous Driving"},{"task_slug":"image-segmentation","task_name":"Image Segmentation"},{"task_slug":"pseudo-label","task_name":"Pseudo Label"},{"task_slug":"pseudo-label-filtering","task_name":"Pseudo Label Filtering"},{"task_slug":"segmentation","task_name":"Segmentation"},{"task_slug":"semantic-segmentation","task_name":"Semantic Segmentation"},{"task_slug":"semi-supervised-semantic-segmentation","task_name":"Semi-Supervised Semantic Segmentation"}],"methods":[],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[{"leaderboard":"/sota/semi-supervised-semantic-segmentation-on-45","task":"Semi-Supervised Semantic Segmentation","dataset":"WoodScape","model":"FishSegSSL","rank_in_archive_order":1,"of":2,"metrics":{"Mean IoU":"64.81"},"uses_additional_data":false}],"syntology":{"atlas_url":null,"mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
