The bandgap decreased with increasing electric field strength, and it is closed at 2.1 V/{\\AA}. For fields exceeding 2.1 V/{\\AA}, the bandgap increased with increasing electric field strength, reaching 0.34 eV at 4.0 V/{\\AA}. We computed the $Z_{2}$ invariant that characterizes topological insulator phases. As results, one-bilayer Bi(111) showed a topological phase transition induced by the electric field, from the topological insulator phase to the trivial insulator phase through a Dirac semimetal. This topological phase transition could be applied to novel devices.","url_abs":"http://arxiv.org/abs/1710.04812v1","url_pdf":"http://arxiv.org/pdf/1710.04812v1.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"links_only","authors_date_abstract":"arXiv metadata, CC0 1.0 (https://info.arxiv.org/help/license), from the Kaggle arXiv metadata snapshot of 2026-09-12"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"first-principles-study-of-electric-field","repo_url":"https://github.com/hikaruri/Z2-support-OpenMX","is_official":1,"mentioned_in_paper":0,"mentioned_in_github":0,"framework":"none","reach":null}],"tasks":[],"methods":[],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[],"syntology":{"syntology_url":null,"atlas_url":null,"mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
