To this end, we show its policy evaluation error on the distribution of transitions decomposes into: a Bellman error, a bias from policy mismatch, and a variance term from sampling. By comparing the magnitude of bias and variance, we explain the success of the Emphasizing Recent Experience sampling and 1/age weighted sampling. Both sampling strategies yield smaller bias and variance and are hence preferable to uniform sampling.","url_abs":"https://arxiv.org/abs/2110.02421v1","url_pdf":"https://arxiv.org/pdf/2110.02421v1.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"abstracts"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"explaining-off-policy-actor-critic-from-a","repo_url":"https://github.com/sunfex/weighted-sac","is_official":1,"mentioned_in_paper":1,"mentioned_in_github":0,"framework":"pytorch","reach":null}],"tasks":[],"methods":[],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[],"syntology":{"atlas_url":null,"mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
