Over the past 40 years a popular way of enlarging their robustness was the enforcement of global or local entropy inequalities. This work focuses on a different entropy criterion proposed by Dafermos almost 50 years ago, stating that the weak solution should be selected that dissipates a selected entropy with the highest possible speed. We show that this entropy rate criterion can be used in a numerical setting if it is combined with the theory of optimal recovery. To date, this criterion has only seen limited use in Finite-Volume schemes and to the authors knowledge this work is the first in which this criterion is applied to a Finite-Volume scheme whose accuracy is based on reconstruction from mean values. This leads to a new family of schemes based on reconstruction providing an alternative to the popular ENO and WENO schemes.","url_abs":"https://arxiv.org/abs/2302.08971v1","url_pdf":"https://arxiv.org/pdf/2302.08971v1.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"links_only","authors_date_abstract":"arXiv metadata, CC0 1.0 (https://info.arxiv.org/help/license), from the Kaggle arXiv metadata snapshot of 2026-09-12"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"entropy-aware-non-oscillatory-high-order","repo_url":"https://github.com/simonius/ear","is_official":1,"mentioned_in_paper":1,"mentioned_in_github":0,"framework":"none","reach":null}],"tasks":[],"methods":[],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[],"syntology":{"syntology_url":null,"atlas_url":null,"mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
