The key is to effectively model the spatial constraints between joints to leverage their inherent dependencies. Thus, we propose a novel model, called Double-chain Graph Convolutional Transformer (DC-GCT), to constrain the pose through a double-chain design consisting of local-to-global and global-to-local chains to obtain a complex representation more suitable for the current human pose. Specifically, we combine the advantages of GCN and Transformer and design a Local Constraint Module (LCM) based on GCN and a Global Constraint Module (GCM) based on self-attention mechanism as well as a Feature Interaction Module (FIM). The proposed method fully captures the multi-level dependencies between human body joints to optimize the modeling capability of the model. Moreover, we propose a method to use temporal information into the single-frame model by guiding the video sequence embedding through the joint embedding of the target frame, with negligible increase in computational cost. Experimental results demonstrate that DC-GCT achieves state-of-the-art performance on two challenging datasets (Human3.6M and MPI-INF-3DHP). Notably, our model achieves state-of-the-art performance on all action categories in the Human3.6M dataset using detected 2D poses from CPN, and our code is available at: https://github.com/KHB1698/DC-GCT.","url_abs":"https://arxiv.org/abs/2308.05298v1","url_pdf":"https://arxiv.org/pdf/2308.05298v1.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"abstracts"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"double-chain-constraints-for-3d-human-pose","repo_url":"https://github.com/KHB1698/DC-GCT","is_official":1,"mentioned_in_paper":1,"mentioned_in_github":1,"framework":"pytorch","reach":null}],"tasks":[{"task_slug":"3d-human-pose-estimation","task_name":"3D Human Pose Estimation"},{"task_slug":"monocular-3d-human-pose-estimation","task_name":"Monocular 3D Human Pose Estimation"},{"task_slug":"pose-estimation","task_name":"Pose Estimation"}],"methods":[{"method_slug":"absolute-position-encodings","method_name":"Absolute Position Encodings"},{"method_slug":"adam","method_name":"Adam"},{"method_slug":"attention","method_name":"Attention"},{"method_slug":"bpe","method_name":"BPE"},{"method_slug":"cpn","method_name":"CPN"},{"method_slug":"convolution","method_name":"Convolution"},{"method_slug":"dense-connections","method_name":"Dense Connections"},{"method_slug":"dropout","method_name":"Dropout"},{"method_slug":"gcn","method_name":"GCN"},{"method_slug":"label-smoothing","method_name":"Label Smoothing"},{"method_slug":"layer-normalization","method_name":"Layer Normalization"},{"method_slug":"linear-layer","method_name":"Linear Layer"},{"method_slug":"multi-head-attention","method_name":"Multi-Head Attention"},{"method_slug":"non-maximum-suppression","method_name":"Non Maximum Suppression"},{"method_slug":"position-wise-feed-forward-layer","method_name":"Position-Wise Feed-Forward Layer"},{"method_slug":"residual-connection","method_name":"Residual Connection"},{"method_slug":"softmax","method_name":"Softmax"},{"method_slug":"transformer","method_name":"Transformer"}],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[{"leaderboard":"/sota/3d-human-pose-estimation-on-human36m","task":"3D Human Pose Estimation","dataset":"Human3.6M","model":"DC-GCT(T=1)","rank_in_archive_order":47,"of":88,"metrics":{"Average MPJPE (mm)":"46.1","Multi-View or Monocular":"Monocular","Using 2D ground-truth joints":"No"},"uses_additional_data":false},{"leaderboard":"/sota/3d-human-pose-estimation-on-mpi-inf-3dhp","task":"3D Human Pose Estimation","dataset":"MPI-INF-3DHP","model":"DC-GCT","rank_in_archive_order":84,"of":108,"metrics":{"AUC":"55.9","PCK":"87.5"},"uses_additional_data":false}],"syntology":{"atlas_url":"https://app.syntology.ai/?focus=2308.05298","mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
