A new layer type is introduced that aims to substitute self-attention for unidirectional sequence generation tasks. The system is shown to be competitive with existing methods: Given N tokens, the computational complexity is O(N logN) and the memory complexity is O(N) under reasonable assumptions. In the end, the Dispatcher layer is seen to achieve comparable perplexity to prior results while being more efficient.","url_abs":"https://arxiv.org/abs/2105.03994v2","url_pdf":"https://arxiv.org/pdf/2105.03994v2.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"abstracts"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"dispatcher-a-message-passing-approach-to","repo_url":"https://github.com/fractalego/dispatcher","is_official":1,"mentioned_in_paper":1,"mentioned_in_github":1,"framework":"pytorch","reach":null}],"tasks":[{"task_slug":"language-modelling","task_name":"Language Modelling"}],"methods":[],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[],"syntology":{"syntology_url":null,"atlas_url":null,"mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
