We provide general results for when such distributions have testable restrictions (are non-increasing) under the null of no $p$-hacking. We find novel additional testable restrictions for $p$-values based on $t$-tests. Specifically, the shape of the power functions results in both complete monotonicity as well as bounds on the distribution of $p$-values. These testable restrictions result in more powerful tests for the null hypothesis of no $p$-hacking. When there is also publication bias, our tests are joint tests for $p$-hacking and publication bias. A reanalysis of two prominent datasets shows the usefulness of our new tests.","url_abs":"https://arxiv.org/abs/1906.06711v5","url_pdf":"https://arxiv.org/pdf/1906.06711v5.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"abstracts"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"detecting-p-hacking","repo_url":"https://github.com/nvkudrin/Detecting-p-hacking-Code","is_official":0,"mentioned_in_paper":0,"mentioned_in_github":1,"framework":"none","reach":null}],"tasks":[],"methods":[],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[],"syntology":{"atlas_url":null,"mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
