The present paper compares two different deep learning architectures to perform weather prediction on daily data gathered from 18 cities across Europe and spanned over a period of 15 years. We propose the Deep Attention Unistream Multistream (DAUM) networks that investigate different types of input representations (i.e. tensorial unistream vs. multistream ) as well as the incorporation of the attention mechanism. In particular, we show that adding a self-attention block within the models increases the overall forecasting performance. Furthermore, visualization techniques such as occlusion analysis and score maximization are used to give an additional insight on the most important features and cities for predicting a particular target feature of target cities.","url_abs":"https://arxiv.org/abs/2009.11239v6","url_pdf":"https://arxiv.org/pdf/2009.11239v6.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"abstracts"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"deep-multi-stations-weather-forecasting","repo_url":"https://github.com/IsmailAlaouiAbdellaoui/weather-forecasting-explanable-recurrent-convolutional-NN","is_official":1,"mentioned_in_paper":1,"mentioned_in_github":1,"framework":"tf","reach":null},{"paper_slug":"deep-multi-stations-weather-forecasting","repo_url":"https://github.com/IsmailAlaouiAbdellaoui/weather-forecasting-explainable-recurrent-convolutional-NN","is_official":0,"mentioned_in_paper":0,"mentioned_in_github":1,"framework":"tf","reach":null}],"tasks":[{"task_slug":"deep-attention","task_name":"Deep Attention"},{"task_slug":"deep-learning","task_name":"Deep Learning"},{"task_slug":"weather-forecasting","task_name":"Weather Forecasting"}],"methods":[{"method_slug":"convolution","method_name":"Convolution"},{"method_slug":"lstm","method_name":"LSTM"},{"method_slug":"sigmoid-activation","method_name":"Sigmoid Activation"},{"method_slug":"tanh-activation","method_name":"Tanh Activation"}],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[],"syntology":{"atlas_url":null,"mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
