Recently, Transformer has been adopted to encode the long-range dependencies between the joints in the spatial and temporal domains. While they had shown excellence in long-range dependencies, studies have noted the need for improving the locality of vision Transformers. In this direction, we propose a novel pose estimation Transformer featuring rich representations of body joints critical for capturing subtle changes across frames (i.e., inter-feature representation). Specifically, through two novel interaction modules; Cross-Joint Interaction and Cross-Frame Interaction, the model explicitly encodes the local and global dependencies between the body joints. The proposed architecture achieved state-of-the-art performance on two popular 3D human pose estimation datasets, Human3.6 and MPI-INF-3DHP. In particular, our proposed CrossFormer method boosts performance by 0.9% and 0.3%, compared to the closest counterpart, PoseFormer, using the detected 2D poses and ground-truth settings respectively.","url_abs":"https://arxiv.org/abs/2203.13387v1","url_pdf":"https://arxiv.org/pdf/2203.13387v1.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"abstracts"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"crossformer-cross-spatio-temporal-transformer","repo_url":"https://github.com/mfawzy/CrossFormer","is_official":1,"mentioned_in_paper":0,"mentioned_in_github":1,"framework":"pytorch","reach":null}],"tasks":[{"task_slug":"3d-human-pose-estimation","task_name":"3D Human Pose Estimation"},{"task_slug":"pose-estimation","task_name":"Pose Estimation"}],"methods":[{"method_slug":"absolute-position-encodings","method_name":"Absolute Position Encodings"},{"method_slug":"adam","method_name":"Adam"},{"method_slug":"attention","method_name":"Attention"},{"method_slug":"bpe","method_name":"BPE"},{"method_slug":"dense-connections","method_name":"Dense Connections"},{"method_slug":"dropout","method_name":"Dropout"},{"method_slug":"label-smoothing","method_name":"Label Smoothing"},{"method_slug":"layer-normalization","method_name":"Layer Normalization"},{"method_slug":"linear-layer","method_name":"Linear Layer"},{"method_slug":"multi-head-attention","method_name":"Multi-Head Attention"},{"method_slug":"position-wise-feed-forward-layer","method_name":"Position-Wise Feed-Forward Layer"},{"method_slug":"residual-connection","method_name":"Residual Connection"},{"method_slug":"softmax","method_name":"Softmax"},{"method_slug":"transformer","method_name":"Transformer"}],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[{"leaderboard":"/sota/3d-human-pose-estimation-on-human36m","task":"3D Human Pose Estimation","dataset":"Human3.6M","model":"CrossFormer (T=81)","rank_in_archive_order":30,"of":88,"metrics":{"Average MPJPE (mm)":"43.7","Multi-View or Monocular":"Monocular","Using 2D ground-truth joints":"No"},"uses_additional_data":false},{"leaderboard":"/sota/3d-human-pose-estimation-on-mpi-inf-3dhp","task":"3D Human Pose Estimation","dataset":"MPI-INF-3DHP","model":"CrossFormer","rank_in_archive_order":34,"of":108,"metrics":{"AUC":" 57.5","MPJPE":"76.3","PCK":"89.1"},"uses_additional_data":false}],"syntology":{"atlas_url":"https://app.syntology.ai/?focus=2203.13387","mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
