Our proposal, FrameFT, models the parameter update $ΔW$ with a sparse coefficient matrix in a Fusion Frame basis. Fusion Frames can be generated algorithmically and shared across model layers, enabling very efficient updates. Only the sparse coefficients of the basis expansion are stored/optimized, reducing the memory footprint. The sparse structure of the coefficient matrix in FrameFT and the sparsity in the Fusion Frames give large compute benefits, and our analysis provides formal convergence results. We evaluate the idea across a suite of supervised fine-tuning benchmarks, focusing on language tasks, but also report application to vision models. Our experiments show that FrameFT achieves performance on par with/exceeding state-of-the-art PEFT techniques, but needs far fewer trainable parameters.","url_abs":"https://arxiv.org/abs/2608.26430","url_pdf":"https://arxiv.org/pdf/2608.26430","source":{"archive":null,"snapshot":"2025-07-28","note":"not in the Papers with Code archive (frozen at the snapshot)","row_kind":"graph","title_abstract_authors_date":"arXiv metadata, CC0 1.0 (https://info.arxiv.org/help/license)"},"code_links":[],"tasks":[],"methods":[],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[],"syntology":{"atlas_url":"https://app.syntology.ai/?focus=2608.26430","mcp":{"get_harvested_code_for_paper":{"arxiv_id":"2608.26430"}},"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers","read_at":"2026-09-24T18:15:14+00:00","read_at_is":"when the build read Syntology's graph, not when any sample ran","claim":"Per-sample execution status on synthesized fixtures; not a correctness claim about the paper.
