UCCA poses a challenge for existing parsing\ntechniques, as it exhibits reentrancy (resulting in DAG structures),\ndiscontinuous structures and non-terminal nodes corresponding to complex\nsemantic units. To our knowledge, the conjunction of these formal properties is\nnot supported by any existing parser. Our transition-based parser, which uses a\nnovel transition set and features based on bidirectional LSTMs, has value not\njust for UCCA parsing: its ability to handle more general graph structures can\ninform the development of parsers for other semantic DAG structures, and in\nlanguages that frequently use discontinuous structures.","url_abs":"http://arxiv.org/abs/1704.00552v2","url_pdf":"http://arxiv.org/pdf/1704.00552v2.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"abstracts"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"a-transition-based-directed-acyclic-graph","repo_url":"https://github.com/danielhers/tupa","is_official":1,"mentioned_in_paper":1,"mentioned_in_github":0,"framework":"none","reach":null}],"tasks":[{"task_slug":"semantic-parsing","task_name":"Semantic Parsing"},{"task_slug":"ucca-parsing","task_name":"UCCA Parsing"}],"methods":[],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[{"leaderboard":"/sota/ucca-parsing-on-semeval-2019-task-1","task":"UCCA Parsing","dataset":"SemEval 2019 Task 1","model":"Transition-based","rank_in_archive_order":4,"of":4,"metrics":{"English-20K (open) F1":"67.2","English-Wiki (open) F1":"72.8"},"uses_additional_data":false}],"syntology":{"atlas_url":"https://app.syntology.ai/?focus=1704.00552","mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
