Specifically, we focus on serially concatenated codes, where the outer code is either a convolutional or a low-density parity-check (LDPC) code, and the inner code is a marker code. We utilize Bidirectional Gated Recurrent Units (BI-GRUs) as log-likelihood ratio (LLR) estimators and outer code decoders for estimating the message bits. Our results indicate that decoders powered by BI-GRUs perform comparably in terms of error rates with the MAP detection of the marker code. We also find that a single network can work well for a wide range of channel parameters. In addition, it is possible to use a single BI-GRU based network to estimate the message bits via one-shot decoding when the outer code is a convolutional code.","url_abs":"https://arxiv.org/abs/2410.09460v1","url_pdf":"https://arxiv.org/pdf/2410.09460v1.pdf","source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","licence_url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/legalcode","row_kind":"links_only","authors_date_abstract":"arXiv metadata, CC0 1.0 (https://info.arxiv.org/help/license), from the Kaggle arXiv metadata snapshot of 2026-09-12"},"code_links":[{"paper_slug":"a-deep-learning-based-decoder-for","repo_url":"https://github.com/Bilkent-CTAR-Lab/DNN-for-Deletion-Channel","is_official":1,"mentioned_in_paper":0,"mentioned_in_github":0,"framework":"tf","reach":null}],"tasks":[],"methods":[],"datasets_introduced":[],"methods_introduced":[],"results":[],"syntology":{"atlas_url":null,"mcp":null,"developers":"https://syntology.ai/developers"},"arxiv_metadata":null,"syntology_extracted_results":null}
