Grab needs to accurately identify and track customers, and associate each shopper with items he or she retrieves from shelves. To do this, it uses a keypoint-based pose tracker as a building block for identification and tracking, develops robust feature-based face trackers, and algorithms for associating and tracking arm movements. It also uses a probabilistic framework to fuse readings from camera, weight and RFID sensors in order to accurately assess which shopper picks up which item.","description_state":"present","introduced_year":null,"introduced_by":{"title":"Grab: Fast and Accurate Sensor Processing for Cashier-Free Shopping","paper":"/paper/grab-fast-and-accurate-sensor-processing-for","first_author":"Xiaochen Liu","n_authors":4,"url_abs":null,"archive_paper_url":"https://paperswithcode.com/paper/grab-fast-and-accurate-sensor-processing-for"},"source":{"url":"https://arxiv.org/abs/2001.01033v1","title":"Grab: Fast and Accurate Sensor Processing for Cashier-Free Shopping","url_on_a_paper_host":true},"code_snippet_url":null,"code_snippet_url_on_a_code_host":false,"categories":[{"area":"Computer Vision","area_id":"computer-vision","collection":"Cashier-Free Shopping","url":"/methods/category/cashier-free-shopping","pwc_aliases":[]}],"n_papers_tagged":6,"archive_num_papers":6,"papers_newest_first":[{"paper":"/paper/revealing-hidden-mechanisms-of-cross-country","title":"Revealing Hidden Mechanisms of Cross-Country Content Moderation with Natural Language Processing","date":"2025-03-07","arxiv_id":"2503.05280","n_code_links":1,"syntology":null},{"paper":null,"title":"Spatial Entity Resolution between Restaurant Locations and Transportation Destinations in Southeast Asia","date":"2024-01-16","arxiv_id":"2401.08537","n_code_links":0,"syntology":null},{"paper":null,"title":"Conditional Expectation based Value Decomposition for Scalable On-Demand Ride Pooling","date":"2021-12-01","arxiv_id":"2112.00579","n_code_links":0,"syntology":null},{"paper":null,"title":"Efficient Deep Learning Pipelines for Accurate Cost Estimations Over Large Scale Query Workload","date":"2021-03-23","arxiv_id":"2103.12465","n_code_links":0,"syntology":null},{"paper":null,"title":"Understanding the Dynamics of Drivers' Locations for Passengers Pickup Performance: A Case Study","date":"2020-09-09","arxiv_id":"2009.04108","n_code_links":0,"syntology":null},{"paper":"/paper/grab-fast-and-accurate-sensor-processing-for","title":"Grab: Fast and Accurate Sensor Processing for Cashier-Free Shopping","date":"2020-01-04","arxiv_id":"2001.01033","n_code_links":0,"syntology":null}],"papers_shown":6,"tasks":[{"task":"/task/clustering","name":"Clustering","papers":1},{"task":"/task/decision-making","name":"Decision Making","papers":1},{"task":"/task/entity-resolution","name":"Entity Resolution","papers":1},{"task":"/task/fake-news-detection","name":"Fake News Detection","papers":1}],"tasks_shown":4,"n_tasks":4,"usage_by_year":[{"year":"2020","papers":2},{"year":"2021","papers":2},{"year":"2024","papers":1},{"year":"2025","papers":1}],"row_source":"methods_table","archive":{"source":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28","archive_url":"https://paperswithcode.com/method/grab"},"syntology_read_at":"2026-09-24T18:15:14+00:00"}
