Shrubs are of special importance for climate reconstruction in the Arctic as they are the only plants with tree rings that can grow there. From a computer vision point of view, the task of detecting of shrub tree rings in microscopy images is a special case of the instance segmentation problem with several unique challenges such as the concentric ring shape of the objects.\r\n\r\nThis dataset provides 213 high resolution microscopy images split into 3 subsets according to species for further advancements in this area.","description_withheld":null,"homepage":"https://github.com/alexander-g/INBD","introduced_date":"2022-12-06","introduced_date_note":null,"introduced_by":{"paper":"/paper/iterative-next-boundary-detection-for","title":"Iterative Next Boundary Detection for Instance Segmentation of Tree Rings in Microscopy Images of Shrub Cross Sections","first_author":"Alexander Gillert","url":null},"license":{"name":"CC BY-NC-SA","url":"https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/"},"modalities":[{"name":"Images","url":"/datasets/modality/images"}],"tasks":[{"name":"Instance Segmentation","url":"/task/instance-segmentation","datasets_with_task":"/datasets/task/instance-segmentation"}],"languages":[],"variants":["MiSCS"],"data_loaders":[],"num_papers_in_archive":1,"source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28"},"benchmarks":[],"papers_with_a_benchmark_row":[],"syntology_totals":{"read_at":"2026-09-24T18:15:14+00:00","papers_with_samples":0,"samples_harvested":0,"samples_ran":0,"samples_unverified":0,"pointer_only_for_licence":0,"papers_with_no_sample_that_ran":0,"note":"the per-paper counts above, summed; not a rate"},"papers_note":"The archive never published its papers-using-dataset list; these are papers with a leaderboard row on this dataset's benchmarks."}
