{"url":"/dataset/earths-mantle-convection","name":"Earth’s Mantle Convection","full_name":null,"description_markdown":"The dataset, generated from a scientific simulation, consists of a time series (251 steps) of 3D scalar fields on a spherical 180x201x360 grid covering 500 Myr of geological time. Each time step is 2 Myrs, and the fields are:\r\n\r\n* temperature [degrees K],\r\n* three Cartesian velocity components [m/s],\r\n* thermal conductivity anomaly [Watt/m/K],\r\n* thermal expansivity anomaly [1/K],\r\n* temperature anomaly [degrees K], and\r\n* spin transition-induced density anomaly [kg/m^3].\r\n\r\nThe simulation was performed in double precision, however, to reduce downloading time, we provide the data in single precision. Each file was saved in a NetCDF Climate and Forecast (CF) convention format, with each 3D scalar field being a function of latitude [degrees north], longitude [degrees east], and radius [km]. The model’s inner and outer radii are 3485 km and 6371 km, respectively.","description_withheld":null,"homepage":"https://scivis2021.netlify.app/","introduced_date":"2020-10-28","introduced_date_note":null,"introduced_by":null,"license":{"name":"CC0","url":null},"modalities":[{"name":"3D","url":"/datasets/modality/3d"},{"name":"Time series","url":"/datasets/modality/time-series"}],"tasks":[],"languages":[{"name":"English","url":"/datasets/language/english"}],"variants":["Earth’s Mantle Convection"],"data_loaders":[],"num_papers_in_archive":1,"source":{"archive":"pwc-archive (Hugging Face), CC BY-SA 4.0","snapshot":"2025-07-28"},"benchmarks":[],"papers_with_a_benchmark_row":[],"syntology_totals":{"read_at":"2026-09-24T18:15:14+00:00","papers_with_samples":0,"samples_harvested":0,"samples_ran":0,"samples_unverified":0,"pointer_only_for_licence":0,"papers_with_no_sample_that_ran":0,"note":"the per-paper counts above, summed; not a rate"},"papers_note":"The archive never published its papers-using-dataset list; these are papers with a leaderboard row on this dataset's benchmarks."}
